Rosacea is a condition marked by redness and flushing at various places on the body. Most of the 14 million Americans who have this condition suffer it on their face. Other people can experience symptoms on the back of the arms, as well. The condition is so common that many people who have it are not aware that it is a condition at all.
Mild Rosacea can affect men and women, as well as any age group. Usually, though, those affected are between the ages of 30 and 50 and are fair skinned. Rosacea causes bumps, redness, and potential swelling. It usually occurs on the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead, and appears to be similar to a rash or an acne breakout. Many people with the condition actually think that it is acne at first. However, these affected by the condition will not actually get blackheads, but will have dilated blood vessels, which is the main cause of the condition. This condition is chronic, but can be resolved with the right treatments. If it is severe enough, the skin on the nose can become permanently swollen and red because of the abnormal enlargement of the oil glands that occurs in the severe cases of the disease. If your case is severe, you might also experience eye irritation and increased risk for sties.
There are many different treatments for mild Rosacea, including topical creams and oral antibiotics. However, these treatments only work for the simplest of cases. If you have Telangiectasias, or facial spider veins and dilated veins, you will need to seek laser therapy to remove them from your face. Your individual treatment options will depend on the severity of your condition, and should be discussed with your doctor in order to get the best information possible. Rosacea can be genetically caused, but the exact cause is not known directly. There are many elements that should be avoided for those who are prone to outbreaks. Sunlight, wind, cold, excessive heat, alcohol, spicy foods, hot drinks, skin care products, scrubbing your face, and exercise should all be avoided.
Mild Rosacea sufferers can exercise, but the sweat on your face will exacerbate the condition, so you will want to wash your face frequently and make sure that you do not overdo it. You need to make sure to consult with your doctor to see what treatment options you have, as well as what activities you should specifically avoid. Some people who suffer from Rosacea, for example, will have no adverse reaction to the factors that usually irritate the condition, while some people might respond to the smallest amount of any of those factors.
There is still a lot to be learned about Mild Rosacea, which is why talking to a dermatologist who understands the process will be so much more important to your case than someone with a better understood condition. Take the time to find a dermatologist if you do not already have one, and make sure that they understand the condition and how it can best be treated
